Blast materials in surface excavations

Purpose:

This module is designed to equip persons who are responsible for charging shot holes with explosives and accessories with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the task safely and effectively.

This module is developed according to the standards, procedures and codes of practice applicable. Regulations pertaining to the charging of shot holes with explosives and accessories as reflected in the Mine Health and Safety Act No 29 of 1996 are also included.

Risks formally identified by means of a risk assessment process are included which gives the learner the ability to identify and deal with work-related hazards and associated risks.

The module details the sequence of steps to be followed in the training process and establishes a criterion by which trainees are to be trained and tested.
