About Course
Demonstrate an understanding of occupational hygiene in the workplace.
Purpose:
The Occupational Health Program determines how the stress or environmental factors need to be addressed, and Occupational Hygiene is necessary to minimise or eliminate occupational health illnesses associated with the environmental factors in the workplace.
Occupational Health deals with the health of the workers as it relates to their working environment.
Occupational Health consists of:
- Occupational Medicine
- Occupational Hygiene Furthermore, the latter is needed to at least reduce the severity of the exposure, if the risk cannot be completely eliminated.
The medical practitioner will ensure through regular examinations and timely diagnosis, that a worker’s health is not affected by his occupation, and when the worker is ill, will alleviate his/her suffering and attempt a cure.
On the other hand, the Occupational Hygienist aims at preventing or minimising exposure to health hazards in the workplace and is therefore a preventive process while the medical process is curative.
